Most if not all of us have an enemy or even enemies
somewhere. It could be someone who did us wrong and we want absolutely nothing
to do with them.
The good thing is that the Bible teaches us how to
handle those enemies. This means it recognizes we have enemies and so it can
only be natural for one to have enemies right?
The book of Obadiah, which is the shortest book in
the Old Testament, asks a very vital question, “How should we respond when we
see an enemy experience misfortune?” It
is natural in our human nature to rejoice when that happens.
The scripture however is against us rejoicing when
an enemy experiences misfortunes. Proverbs 24:17, “Do not rejoice when your
enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles.” This is the
Christian way of dealing with our enemies.
We are to maintain an attitude of compassion and
forgiveness and trust God to bring justice in His time.
Romans 12 further tell us how to deal with people
problems.
i.
We should be patient (V.12)
ii.
We should bless persecutors (V.14).
iii.
We should be humble (V. 16).
iv.
We should not take revenge (V.19).
v.
We should defeat evil with good (V.21).
Do not gloat over your enemies…
